The Ghana Education Service (GES) has assured the public that it would launch an investigation into the killing of an O'Reilly Senior High School student during a scuffle on campus a few days ago.
The service revealed that its leadership had visited the school and family of the deceased, Master Edward Sackey following the unfortunate incident and expressed commitment to work with stakeholders to get to the bottom of the matter. "The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service led a team to visit the school and the deceased's family to commiserate with them.
We will continue to support the school and assure the public that we are working closely with the relevant authorities to ensure a thorough investigation. "We hope to conclude our administrative investigations within two weeks while the Police Service handles the criminal investigation.
We are pleased to report that calm has been restored on the campus, and we are working to ensure the well-being and safety of all students and staff," the press release read in part.
The death of the 18-year-old student occurred at the school's premises on Monday, September 2, 2024, after he was stabbed by a schoolmate during an argument over whose father was richer.
The suspect has been arrested by the police.
The GES, therefore, encouraged the public to avoid "speculations and allow the investigative process to unfold".
