Former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed optimism about leading the (NPP) to victory in the 2028 general elections.

Speaking at a meeting with 220 former Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) on Monday, June 23, 2025, the NPP's 2024 flagbearer compared his current political situation to that of President , who successfully returned from opposition to win the 2024 election. "If John Mahama can come back after 2016 and win the 2024 election, I can come back after 2024 and win," he stated.

The meeting comes just days after Dr Bawumia hosted over 60 NPP Members of Parliament at his campaign office, where they publicly declared their support for his bid to become the party's flagbearer once again.

The former MMDCEs, who served under previous NPP administrations between 2017 and 2024, are expected to discuss campaign strategies and officially throw their weight behind Dr Bawumia ahead of the party's crucial internal presidential primaries, scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2026.
