The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, on June 20, 2025, reported an incident to the Presiding Speaker of the House, Lawyer Andrews Asiamah, concerning events that transpired in the chamber.
According to Afenyo-Markin, the National Chairman of the ruling government the (NDC), , entered the parliamentary chamber to take photographs with 80 Members of Parliament from the NDC as part of his campaign to succeed President John Dramani Mahama.
While addressing the Speaker, Afenyo-Markin questioned whether such conduct was permitted within the rules of the House. "Mr Speaker, you suspended the House for five minutes, and during that period, our colleagues allowed their National Chairman to enter the chamber to take pictures as part of his campaign, having garnered the support of the NDC MPs. "The National Chairman of the NDC, who has declared his intention to succeed President Mahama, entered the chamber.
Mr Speaker, 60 NDC MPs initially took pictures with him.
