(NPP) Member of Parliament for Effiduase/Asokore, Dr , has stated that the party's 2024 presidential candidate and former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, will once again select his running mate from the Ashanti Region.
Speaking in an interview on Wontumi Radio/TV on June 20, 2025, Dr Ayew Afriye expressed confidence that Dr Bawumia, whom he believes will win the NPP primaries for the 2028 presidential election, has assured party members that his vice-presidential candidate will also come from the Ashanti Region.
He explained that Dr Bawumia is poised to win the NPP presidential primaries, slated for January 31, 2026, due to strong support from within the party, especially in the Ashanti Region and among NPP Members of Parliament. "Ashanti has not changed its stance, and Bawumia has made it clear that his running mate will come from Ashanti.
I don't know who he will choose, but he has said his vice will be from the region. "He (Dr Bawumia) loves Ashanti, and Ashanti loves him too.
