The Office of the Special Prosecutor has formally charged four public officials with corruption in connection to a scheme involving ten containers of imported rice allegedly hijacked at Tema Port.

The accused-Issah Seidu of the National Insurance Commission, James Keck Osei, a former Director at the Vice President's Secretariat, and Customs officials John Abban and Peter Archibold Hyde-are alleged to have conspired to fraudulently claim rice containers imported from Thailand in 2022.

According to investigators, Seidu used falsified documents and a forged letter purportedly from the Office of the Vice President to take control of the containers, despite the goods being lawfully imported and all duties paid.

The group is accused of attempting to auction the rice to Seidu under the guise of an official process.
