The 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Ablekuma North, Akua Afriyie, has called on Parliament to lend its voice to the Electoral Commission's (EC) plea for adequate security from the Ghana Police Service to complete the collation of parliamentary results in the constituency.
Her appeal comes in the wake of the EC's decision to reject a re-run of the 2024 parliamentary election in Ablekuma North, despite repeated disruptions by political party sympathisers that have stalled the collation process.
In an exclusive interview on Channel One Newsroom on Thursday, June 19, Akua Afriyie stressed that Parliament-particularly the Interior Minister-must act to safeguard the EC's independence and enable the Commission to conclude the process without fear.
She argued that a unified call from key state actors, especially Parliament, would fast-track the process and restore representation for the people of Ablekuma North in the House. "It is, I feel, incumbent on Parliament to also request the presence of the police because the EC is requesting adequate security for them based on only one fact.
