President has hinted at future reforms in the election of political officers within the country's local government system.

Addressing Municipal, Metropolitan, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) at an orientation and training programme on June 18, 2025, he stated that consideration is being given to transitioning from appointing local governance officers to electing them.

He stated that consultations are ongoing by the National Review Committee, which has been tasked with reviewing Ghana's 1992 Constitution, addressing its gaps, and providing recommendations to the government.

He added that some MMDCEs have already been consulted and are expected to submit its report in August. "MMDCEs, you may be the last batch of MMDCEs appointed.
