Renowned agricultural scientist, Professor Roger Kanton, has called for the establishment of a dedicated Ghana Agricultural Service to operate independently from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture.

According to Prof.

Kanton, the current structure lacks the technical autonomy needed to drive innovation and growth in the agriculture sector, and leaves agricultural services vulnerable to political interference. "We do not have the Ghana Agricultural Service.

By all standards, we should have that - just like the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service," he stated during the Citi Business Forum on the theme Harnessing Agribusiness for Economic Growth: Expanding Ghana's Agribusiness Frontiers. "When you go to the Health Service, it is full of technocrats, all-rounded, without any political interference, whereas the ministry handles policy issues," he explained.
