Agricultural scientist, Professor Roger Kanton, has criticised the current structure of Ghana's Ministry of Food and Agriculture at the district level, describing it as flawed and counterproductive to effective agricultural development.

Speaking at the Citi Business Forum on the theme Harnessing Agribusiness for Economic Growth: Expanding Ghana's Agribusiness Frontiers, Prof.

Kanton expressed concern about how the Ministry's decentralisation under the Ministry of Local Government has left district agricultural departments powerless and under-resourced. "The way the Ministry of Food and Agriculture at the district level has been absorbed into the Ministry of Local Government is not right.

It is now called the Department of Agriculture," he said. "You and I know that the Local Government Ministry is one of the most inefficient departments.
