The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has scheduled its National Delegate Conference for July 19, this year.Key on the agenda for the conference would be consideration for constitutional amendment for the party.Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday in Accra, the General Secretary of the party, Mr Justin Frimpong Kodua, said NEC and National Council (NEC) had constituted a nine-member committee to be chaired by former Bekwai MP, Mr Joseph Osei Owusu, to undertake planning of the event.Mr Kodua expressed dissatisfaction with the failure of the Electoral Commission (EC) to complete the collation of parliamentary results in the Ablekuma North Constituency, blaming the Ghana Police Service for not providing the necessary security to enable the process. He described that delay as unacceptable and a threat to Ghana's electoral integrity, questioning the rationale behind the police's inaction despite a High Court ruling directing the EC to finalise the outstanding results.Mr Kodua explained that the EC had confirmed its readiness to complete collation at the remaining three polling stations in the constituency. However, he emphasised, the Commission was unable to proceed due to the absence of police security, with the Ghana Police Service citing a letter from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) suggesting a pending matter before the Supreme Court.According to Mr Kodua, both the EC and the NPP have verified that there is no such case currently before the Supreme Court to warrant the police's position. He, therefore, accused the NDC, the Police Service, and the Attorney-General's Department of employing tactics aimed at frustrating the process."The EC has said clearly it is ready to conclude the collation.
The only thing they require is police protection.
There is no case before the Supreme Court.
What then is stopping the police?" he quizzed. The meeting also received a report from the Constitutional Amendment Committee, led by Mr Frank Davies, which has received over 300 proposals from party members nationwide.Additionally, the party is on course to launch its ideological training institution, the Patriotic Institute, on June 25, 2025, and issued a strong call for discipline among members in accordance with Article 3 of the party's constitution.
