The New Patriotic Party's (NPP) general secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, has denied rumors that the party's next presidential primary is being planned to benefit Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia or any other contender.
This follows issues surrounding the NPP's officially scheduled January 31, 2026, presidential primary.
In response to suggestions made by the Constitution Review Committee, the National Council of the party authorized the date.
In an interview on Wednesday, June 18, on Channel One TV, Kodua rejected the idea as baseless, saying "I will be very surprised for anyone to think that an election that is yet to be conducted will favour a particular candidate." In support of the party's internal election system, he pointed out that its procedures had been democratic and constant over time. "If you have monitored our electoral history even from 1992, 1996 to 2000, at every election - from national through to polling stations - about 70%, sometimes even 80%, of current executives retain their positions," citinewsroom.com quoted him to have said.
