The Human Rights Court in Accra has rejected an interlocutory injunction application by former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, which sought to bar the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) from re-declaring him "wanted" or labeling him a "fugitive from justice." The court, presided over by Justice Kwame Amoako, not only dismissed the request but also imposed a GH¢5,000 cost on Ofori-Atta, describing the application as lacking merit.
In his ruling, Justice Amoako explained that the former minister failed to satisfy the three key legal requirements for an injunction: raising a serious issue for trial, proving irreparable harm that cannot be compensated with damages, and showing that the balance of convenience favored him.
However, the judge clarified that the dismissal of the injunction does not reflect on the merits of the substantive case itself.
The court has directed both parties to file issues for determination within two weeks ahead of the next hearing on July 15, 2025.
