The government has announced that all sanitary pads distributed under the Free Sanitary Pad policy will be procured exclusively from local manufacturers, with no imports allowed, in a move aimed at boosting local production and supporting domestic industry.

This directive was issued by President John Dramani Mahama, according to a statement shared by Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu on Facebook on Wednesday June 18. "Minister for Education: President directs that ALL sanitary pads under the Free Sanitary Pad policy be procured locally.

No import whatsoever allowed," Mr Ofosu posted.

The Free Sanitary Pad policy is part of the government's broader efforts to improve menstrual hygiene among schoolgirls, reduce absenteeism, and promote gender equity in education.
