The flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has responded to the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr.
Mahamudu Bawumia's description of him as a "second-hand, failed president".
Mahama says he has accepted the label, drawing an analogy with second-hand vehicles, which he said often prove more durable than new ones.
This response comes after Dr.
Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, contrasted a vote for the NPP as a choice for a "brand new, tear-rubber president" with fresh ideas, versus a vote for the NDC's "second-hand, failed president".
Mahama, speaking at a rally in Nyankwoantre in the Sene East constituency, emphasised the value of experience, stating, "Old things have more experience than the new ones." He questioned the need for another leader from the current government, which he accused of ruining Ghana's democracy.
He advocated for a change in leadership, saying, "What I'm saying is, why should we allow someone who is part of the current government, which is ruining our country's democracy, to lead again?
We need someone different from this government to lead the country. "They say we need a 'tear-rubber' president, meaning a new one.
If they describe me as a 'second-hand' president or something old, I accept.
Because old things have more experience than new ones.
Experience matters, and I have it." By: Akosua Otchere
