Ghanaian comedian Lekzy DeComic has opened up about a lesser-known reality in the event space - the need to distribute free tickets to fill venues, even when a show appears successful on the surface. Speaking on Showbiz A-Z with Kwame Dadzie on Joy FM about why some shows appear successful from the outside - with packed venues and flashy visuals - yet still leave organizers struggling to break even, the stand-up comic admitted that he has, on occasion, had to give out a significant number of free tickets to avoid the visual embarrassment of an empty auditorium, particularly when the show is being recorded for television or promotional purposes."Yes, it has happened before," he admitted. "If you are shooting the event for television, or for other commercial reasons, you can't shoot an event in a half-empty auditorium.
You still have to fill up." Referencing OB Amponsah's show at the Bukom Boxing Arena, Lekzy shared that low ticket sales days before the event forced organizers to distribute tickets freely to ensure the venue looked full. "Two days to the event when we checked the ticket sales, it wasn't encouraging, so we had to find a way to give some of the tickets out.
People bought tickets, but it wasn't as much as we expected," he revealed.
