President John Dramani Mahama has charged Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to view their appointments and confirmations as a call to serve the public rather than a personal reward or favour.

Addressing MMDCEs at an orientation and training programme for them in Accra on Wednesday, 18th June, Mr Mahama reminded them that their selection had come after careful consideration among many equally qualified individuals, and therefore demanded a deep sense of duty, humility, and accountability. "This is not a personal reward; it is a public responsibility.

You have been selected among many under section 21 of the Local Governance Act," he said.

The president emphasised the importance of local governance in national development and urged the MMDCEs to align their activities with the broader objectives of transparency, inclusiveness, and sustainable progress. "The Ghanaian people voted for a bold change and a reset; your actions and results must demonstrate that their trust was not misplaced," he added.
