The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has clarified that its regulations do not permit a separate Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for candidates who miss the exams due to unforeseen circumstances.

This follows reports that eight students from Nangbagu Yapala M/A JHS in the Northern Region were unable to sit for the exams after being involved in a road accident.

At the Wa School for the Deaf in the Upper West Region, another disruption occurred when a swarm of wild bees invaded the exam centre, leading to the hospitalisation of one student.

Speaking on Eyewitness News, WAEC's Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, said although the Council is awaiting official reports from the affected centres, it cannot organise fresh exams for candidates who missed any papers. "We would not be able to say that they should go back and sit the same exams as those who have just finished.
