Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi has urged the government to go beyond merely suspending the controversial Energy Sector Levy and take immediate steps to abolish it entirely.
Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News on Monday, June 16, he maintained that the levy, which was scheduled to be implemented under the Energy Sector Levies (Amendment) Act, 2025 (Act 1141), is unnecessary and burdensome, especially in the current economic climate. "What we are drawing attention to is not just the suspension of the levy because that levy is unnecessary.
We are also calling for a complete scrapping of the levy.
Government should not just pause it, but take this opportunity to review the entire fuel revenue structure," he said.
