Supreme Court judge nominee, Justice Gbiel Simon Suurbaareh, has stated that while corruption exists within Ghana's judicial system, the extent of the problem has been exaggerated and often misunderstood by the public.
Speaking during his vetting by Parliament's Appointments Committee on Monday, June 16, 2025, Justice Suurbaareh emphasised the need for greater public understanding of the judiciary's structure. "The judiciary is a human institution, and it will not lack its bad nuts.
But I believe that the issue of corruption in the judiciary has been overhyped," he argued.
He further explained the distinction between the judiciary and the Judicial Service, a difference he argued is often lost on many Ghanaians. "I also want to draw the public's attention to the fact that people tend to confuse the judiciary with the judicial service.
