Supreme Court nominee, Justice Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei, has emphasised the need to strengthen the privileges and immunities of Ghana's Parliament, warning that failure to do so could undermine its relevance and authority Appearing before Parliament's Appointments Committee on Monday, June 16, he referenced the historical power struggle between the British Parliament and the monarchy in 1215 AD, noting that the protection of parliamentary immunity is essential to maintaining peace, democratic governance, and the rule of law.

According to him, the privileges granted to Parliament are not mere formalities but essential rights that enable Members of Parliament to perform their duties effectively.

He further cautioned against potential encroachment by other arms of government, urging Parliament to firmly defend its independence. "Parliament is likely to lose its existence if it loses privileges and immunities.

The Privileges are the additional rights that are given to Members of Parliament to enable them to function.
