Supreme Court nominee, Justice Senyo Dzamefe, has stated that the current retirement age of 70 for judges in Ghana should remain unchanged, opposing suggestions to increase it to 75.
Speaking during his vetting by the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Monday, June 16, he explained that advancements in technology and earlier access to legal knowledge have significantly reduced the need for extended years on the bench to gain the requisite experience and wisdom. "I will not agree with sending the retirement age of the Supreme Court judges or Appeal Courts to 75 years," he said.
The retirement age as of now is 70 years.
