Two residents of Mile 7 in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality, Emmanuel Tawiah, a labourer, and Ibrahim Mohammed, a businessman, have been arrested and fined GH¢1,560 each in connection with a series of diesel thefts at the AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine.
Appearing before the Tarkwa District Court, Police Sergeant Enoch Assan-Donkoh, who prosecuted the case, said the complainant, Gilbert Adom Mensah, is an employee of the mining company.
He noted that the mine had been experiencing persistent incidents of diesel theft, prompting residents of the Mile 7 community to form a watchdog committee to help address the issue.
According to Sergeant Assan-Donkoh, on January 15, 2025, at about 2:00 a.m., a member of the watchdog committee, Michael Boamah, spotted two individuals, Tawiah and one Arhin, who is currently at large, each carrying a jerry can suspected to contain stolen diesel.
