The Zoomlion Ghana Limited has clarified public discourse surrounding the status of its contract with the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), clarifying that the agreement was expired and not terminated or cancelled by the government. This follows the circulation of a letter dated June 11, 2025, from the Office of the President to journalist Mr Manasseh Azure Awuni, referencing the said contract. In a statement issued by its Communications and Corporate Affairs Directorate, Zoomlion reaffirmed its commitment to national development and sustainable sanitation delivery."It is important to note that the letter from the Presidency does not indicate a termination of Zoomlion's other contract or brother YEA sanitation module,'' the statement said.According to the statement, the agreement, originally set to expire in March 2024, was extended by six months and duly ended in September 2024, clarifying that the expiration occurred as scheduled and should not be misconstrued as a termination."The YEA contract referenced in the letter referred specifically to the Street Sweeping Programme (Youth in Sanitation Module). The expiration followed its natural course and doesn't constitute a termination or cancellation, contrary to claims in some media report," the statement said."Zoomlion Ghana Limited has worked consistently with successive governments on the YEA module for over 19 years, reflecting both our commitment and the state's continued recognition of our contributions," the statement read.On the matter of competitive procurement, Zoomlion expressed full support for the government's decision to adopt such processes for future sanitation contracts. The company noted that the YEA contract itself was competitively procured in 2019, and it was prepared to participate actively in upcoming bidding processes."Our technical competence, operational footprint, and record of innovation make us well-positioned to compete and deliver under new contract models," it added.Zoomlion also lauded the Government's commitment to improving the wages and working conditions of frontline sanitation workers. It reiterated its advocacy for fair remuneration and said it remains committed to offering dignified and sustainable employment to its workforce. In support of the Government's emphasis on transparency and accountability, Zoomlion welcomed ongoing audits and verification exercises related to the expired YEA contract. The company stated that it had consistently cooperated with the Auditor-General and other oversight bodies and remains committed to value-for-money service delivery.Highlighting its broader impact, Zoomlion revealed that 24 African countries have approached the company for partnerships, citing Ghana's waste management model as a benchmark. This, the company aligned itself with the government's "RESET" agenda focused on "rebuilding, equity, sustainability, empowerment, and transformation" reiterating its dedication to building a cleaner, greener, and more resilient country."Our mission remains firmly in step with national development priorities and the aspirations of the Ghanaian people: to reset sanitation systems, create dignified jobs, protect the environment, and uphold public service excellence," the statement concluded.BY TIMES REPORTER
