The Government of Ghana has begun the immediate evacuation of its citizens from Iran in response to escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has announced.

In a Facebook statement on Monday, June 16, 2025, the Minister said the Mahama administration's decision prioritizes the safety and security of Ghanaians living in the region. "In the interest of the protection of Ghanaian lives, the Mahama Administration has decided to immediately evacuate Ghanaians living in Iran following an escalation of the Israel-Iran conflict," he stated.

As part of the move, Ghana's embassy in Tehran has been shut down with immediate effect.

The evacuation process, which is being carried out via land borders, covers all Ghanaian nationals including diplomats, students, professionals, and other residents.
