The Government of Ghana has announced plans to evacuate its citizens from Iran in response to the deepening conflict between Israel and Iran.

Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, made the announcement via a social media post on Monday, 16 June, citing the protection of Ghanaian lives as the primary motivation behind the decision. "The Mahama Administration has, in the interest of the protection of Ghanaian lives, decided to immediately evacuate Ghanaians living in Iran following an escalation of the Israel-Iran conflict," Mr Ablakwa stated.

He further revealed that Ghana's embassy in Tehran had been closed with immediate effect to guarantee the safety of diplomatic staff.

The evacuation operation, which will be carried out through Iran's land borders, covers all Ghanaian nationals in the country - including diplomats, students, professionals, and other residents.
