The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has distanced itself from any of its former government officials found culpable in acts of corruption, insisting it will not defend or support any party member convicted for abusing public office.
Speaking in the wake of the alleged major payroll fraud scandal involving former top officials of the National Service Authority (NSA), NPP Communications Director Richard Ahiagbah said the party's stance on corruption is non-negotiable. "Our party's principled position is to serve the people.
Any act of corruption, of abusing and leveraging public access for personal gain, is completely unacceptable.
We will not condone it; we will not support it," Ahiagbah stated firmly in an interview on Channel One TV's The Point of View on Saturday June 14.
