Two constituency executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Walewale, North-East Region, have been suspended with immediate effect for what the party describes as gross misconduct.
Along with a party member, the suspended individuals have been directed to surrender all party materials in their possession as an investigation into their actions is underway.
The suspension, announced in a letter signed by Regional Chairman Fuseini Nurudeen, follows a recent High Court ruling in Tamale that mandated a re-run of the Walewale constituency parliamentary primary.
The court determined that the previous election was marred by irregularities, including impersonation and over-voting.
In response, the General Secretary of the NPP disclosed that the party has scheduled the re-run, with nominations opening on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, closing on Thursday, September 5, and the election slated for Sunday, September 8, 2024.
