The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), , has commented on the recent arrest of Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
Sharing his thoughts on the incident during an interview with Onua TV on June 11, 2025, he stated that Chairman Wontumi was arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to respond to charges brought against him.
Asiedu Nketiah criticised the reaction from NPP members, led by Afenyo-Markin, who gathered at EOCO's premises in protest.
He questioned the reasoning behind their demonstration, arguing that Wontumi had merely been invited to answer questions as part of due process. "I heard that he was invited by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to respond to allegations of illegal mining and was later arrested again over money he had received for a contract but failed to fulfill.
