The National Communications Authority (NCA) has pulled the plug on over 60 radio stations, including high-profile outlets Asaase Radio and Wontumi FM, for flouting regulatory requirements.
According to the NCA, the affected stations were found to be operating with expired authorisations, had failed to pay licence fees, or had not met basic set-up obligations as mandated by the Electronic Communications Act.
This comes on the back of a ministerial directive and a rigorous audit by the authority to restore order across the airwaves.
What raises eyebrows is the inclusion of Asaase Radio (99.5 FM) and Wontumi FM, both of which are not only household names but also closely associated with political figures.
