The newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Dr Kenneth Ashigbey, has reaffirmed his commitment to the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

He stated that he remains resolute in the fight against illicit mining despite his new role as the CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Mines.

Dr Ashigbey, who is also the Convener of the Media Coalition Against Galamsey, explained that his current position at the Chamber presents him the opportunity to intensify his advocacy for responsible and sustainable mining practices in the country.

According to a citinewsroom.com report on June 11, 2025, he emphasised that his new position would allow for more coordinated efforts, within the mining industry to address the prevailing challenges and promote best practices. "There is an alignment between the Chamber itself and actors in the space to ensure that stakeholders mine sustainably.
