The Mortuary Workers Association of Ghana (MOWAG) has urged the government to urgently resolve the ongoing impasse with the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), following what it describes as a disturbing surge in the national death toll recorded in health facilities.
Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News on Tuesday, June 10, MOWAG General Secretary, Richard Jordan warned that if the strike continues unresolved, mortuary facilities across the country could soon be overwhelmed. "We have seen a sharp surge in the number of deaths in the last three days, and our concern is that the government should intervene before our mortuaries get full.
The number of people dying is scary," he stated.
Jordan explained that under normal circumstances, major hospitals like Korle Bu Teaching Hospital would record between 50 to 100 deaths per week.
