The Deputy Minister for Trade, Industry, and Agribusiness, Sampson Ahi, has commended members of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) for heeding calls to adjust prices in response to the cedi's recent appreciation.

Speaking during a meeting with GUTA leadership, Ahi praised the traders' cooperation, describing it as an act of patriotism. "I want to also thank the actors in the buy-and-sell industry for heeding the call," Ahi said. "It's close to two months since the GUTA leadership issued a statement to their members to reduce prices to commensurate with the levels of appreciation the cedi has gained.

I want to commend you highly for that patriotism." The Deputy Minister assured traders of the government's support, acknowledging that while price reductions may take time, the process has already begun. "The government has confidence in you and we are ready to collaborate with you.

We understand your situation. "It will be reduced certainly, but it will be a gradual process, and we believe that it has already started." Ahi also emphasized the need for stability in the cedi's performance to help businesses plan effectively. "We pray that there will be certainty in the cedi appreciation so that you will help us to plan and to be able to forecast so that it will help businesses to grow." He further urged all market players to continue lowering prices to ensure consumers benefit from the currency's gains.
