A sympathiser of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Theophilus Thompson, pleaded not guilty in court on Monday, 9 June 2025, following his arrest for allegedly assaulting JoyNews journalist, Latif Iddrisu. 55-year-old Theophilus Thompson was captured on video, along with other suspects who are currently on the run, assaulting Latif Iddrisu during his live coverage of the detention of the NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, in EOCO custody.
On Monday, June 9, the courtroom was filled with observers, including senior NPP executives.
Among them were the party's National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye (Nana B), and National Youth Organiser, Salam Mustapha, who were present to show support for Thompson.
During proceedings, Thompson pleaded not guilty to the charge of assault.
