The chief and elders of Doromakese in Nkoranza North of the Bono East region have invoked curses on the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) John Mahama and the parliamentary candidate, Joseph Mensah for disrespecting them.
Following a message from Mr Mahama's campaign team indicating his intention to pay the traditional leaders a courtesy call on Monday, September 2, Obrempong Danso Abeam and his elders sat down for over 7 hours in wait of the former president, but that was in vain as he failed to turn up.
According to the traditional leaders, the NDC parliamentary candidate, Joseph Mensah informed that Mr Mahama was at Kintampo and will join them shortly, but the former first gentleman failed to turn up.
Though ex-president Mahama visited the Doromakese town to campaign, he did not visit the chiefs, which caused anger to be stirred up among the traditional authorities.
They were mad that Mr Mahama treated them with disrespect hence called on the powerful deities of the land to deal ruthlessly with anyone who will vote for the NDC or openly support the party going into the December 7 general election. "John Mahama has made us sit down from morning till evening.
If he visits again to hold a rally, anybody who goes to listen to him must be dealt with ruthlessly by our powerful deity 'Tum Kramo'.
Anybody that votes for John Mahama should be killed by the gods of our land.
John Mahama told us he will be here by 1pm, then we were later informed that the time has been moved to 6pm and we were still waiting.
After 7pm, he still didn't turn up and has treated us with disrespect.
He's come to do his campaign and left the town while Nananom are still waiting for him in the palace.
If he can be so disrespectful to the traditional authorities, then no NDC supporter will vote in this town come December 7 elections," a visibly anger elder of the town said in a video recording.
Another said: " If you live in this Doromakese town and you defy the ban on NDC and you go and vote for the party, whether John Mahama or Joseph Mensah (Parliamentary candidate) may the gods of this land kill the person.
The linguist, Okyeame Adu Darko was not left out in the exercise of invoking curses. "Mahama informed us he'll be coming and we prepared ahead of time for him.
We sat from 1:00pm to 7:00pm.
He came to conduct his campaign and left forgetting that the town has an owner or a person who heads it.
John Mahama left this town without saying a word to us.
He has disrespected our chief so much.
We are invoking the wrath of the gods of this land, and also swear by our black stool to mercilessly deal with anyone in this town who will vote for the NDC," Okyeame Adu Darko fumed.
