Isaac Akwasi Agyei, a 38-year-old fake staffer of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has been arrested by the Assin Fosu District Police Command for impersonation and defrauding unsuspecting customers in the Assin South District of the Central Region.
Claiming to be a revenue collection and disconnection officer, the suspect approached clients in the Assin Kwafo-krom and Appiah-krom areas while wearing ECG working attire.
Customers who owed more than Gh¢200.00 and could not produce recent payment receipts were threatened with being disconnected.
According to the victims, in certain instances, he took away the meters from clients who were unable to pay and took other payments, such as food items including bundles of plantains, banku, and groundnut soup.
Agyei was arrested after the victims became suspicious and denounced him to the Assembly member.
Agyei was placed in police custody after ECG officers in Assin Fosu refused to acknowledge knowing about his activities when they were called.
The Assembly member for the Assin Beyəɛdɛn-Appiakrom Electoral region, Hon.
