The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, has reaffirmed the pivotal role of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) in Ghana's anti-corruption efforts, describing it as the country's most effective mechanism for tackling corruption.

Speaking at the high-level conference on Ghana's anti-corruption architecture in Accra on Friday, June 6, he emphasised the uniqueness of the OSP, calling it a "never-before-seen remedy" designed to address the shortcomings of previous anti-corruption strategies. "The OSP model represents our best bet in tackling corruption and upon this architecture, it is a unique and never before seen remedy designed as a cure of the inadequacies of the traditional methods we have previously adopted," he stated.

Unlike earlier approaches that lacked full enforcement authority, Agyebeng highlighted that the OSP is equipped with genuine legal and prosecutorial powers, ensuring its independence in initiating investigations and prosecuting corruption-related offenses. "The model retains total control over the initiation of the conduct of investigations and the institutions of criminal proceedings," he explained.

He further stressed that the OSP framework guarantees political neutrality and non-selectiveness, allowing it to pursue corruption cases without external interference. "For the first time in our history, the OSP model forcefully carries the fight against corruption not only in the province of public officers and public life, but also among politically exposed persons and persons in the private sector," he added.
