President John Dramani Mahama has called on Muslims and all Ghanaians to embrace the deeper meaning of Eid ul Adha, highlighting the values of compassion, sharing, and community as central to the celebration.

In a message marking the holy festival in Accra on Friday June 6, Mahama emphasised that Eid is not solely about the symbolic sacrifice of animals but about the principles that underpin it-generosity, social responsibility, and love for one another. "Eid ul Adha is not only about the physical act of sacrifice," he stated. "It is also about compassion, sharing, and community." He reminded celebrants of the Islamic tradition regarding the distribution of sacrificial meat, underscoring the importance of ensuring that the benefits of the festival reach the less fortunate. "Those of us who have had the means to sacrifice an animal must be reminded that the meat must be divided-one portion goes to your family, one portion to your friends and neighbours, and one portion to the poor," he said.
