The National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, has issued a stern warning that Ghana could plunge back into crippling power outages commonly known as 'dumsor' if citizens fail to support the newly approved 1-cedi levy hike on petroleum products.

The government recently secured parliamentary approval for the Energy Sector Levy (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which introduces a GHS1 increase per litre of petroleum products.

This measure is projected to generate an additional GHS5.7 billion, aimed at tackling the rising debts within the energy sector and ensuring a stable power supply nationwide.

Despite some public reservations about the levy potentially raising the cost of living, officials insist it is a necessary and strategic step.
