The 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Adentan, Akosua Manu, has called on the ruling NDC to admit and apologise to Ghanaians over what she describes as a damaging u-turn on the introduction of new taxes.
Speaking on Channel One TV's Breakfast Daily on Thursday, June 5, Akosua Manu took a strong stance against the ruling party's decision to implement the Energy Sector Levy (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which increases the levy on petroleum products by GHc1 cedi per litre.
The bill, recently approved by Parliament, aims to raise approximately GHS5.7 billion to alleviate the mounting debts in the energy sector and ensure a stable electricity supply.
She called on the NDC to acknowledge that, despite its earlier promises not to introduce new taxes and its strong opposition to such measures, the government has now backtracked on its position. "You said you would not introduce taxes, you demonised the levy.
