Deputy Minister of Works and Housing, Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui, has called for a comprehensive evaluation of building permits issued by district assemblies, as part of efforts to prevent tragedies similar to the June 3, 2015, disaster in Accra.
The June 3 incident, one of Ghana's worst national disasters, occurred when torrential rains led to severe flooding at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle.
The floodwaters mixed with leaking fuel from a nearby GOIL fuel station, resulting in a massive explosion that claimed over 150 lives.
Speaking on Channel One TV's The Point of View with Bernard Avle on Wednesday, June 4, Tetteh-Agbotui emphasised the need for accountability in the issuance of building permits, particularly in flood-prone areas. "At some point, I also blame the assemblies and the people who also bought the lands.
