The release of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, turned dramatic as a series of chaotic events preceded his released by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), on the night of Monday, June 2, 2025.
In solidarity with Chairman Wontumi, NPP loyalists, along with party executives from the Ashanti and Greater Accra Regions, gathered at EOCO's forecourt to demand his release.
GhanaWeb's team at the EOCO headquarters captured the tension that escalated between the protesters and the police.
Some party members clad in red and black attire attempted to breach police barricades, but the security personnel held their ground.
