Ghana's Parliament has passed the Energy Sector Levy Amendment Bill 2025.  The bill was passed on the dawn of June 4, 2025.  The Energy Sector Levy Amendment Bill was passed after the Minority in Parliament staged a walkout.  The Majority in Parliament used their numbers to get the bill passed.  The Energy Sector Levy Amendment Bill 2025, imposes GHS 1 on every litre of fuel.  The Finance Minister, Dr.

Cassiel Ato Forson, who laid the bill under a certificate of urgency, stated that the energy sector's total indebtedness stands at US$3.1 billion as of March 2025.

He assured Parliament that the impact of the new levy on ex-pump prices would be "absorbed by the gains made from the strong performance of the Ghana Cedi", meaning consumers would not experience an immediate price hike.
