A group calling itself Concerned Youth of Sagyimase is kicking against the invasion of the Atewa forest by illegal miners.
The concerned youth of Sagyimase, representing the chiefs, farmers, traditional leaders, environmental activists, youth groups, and civil society organizations, say they are vehemently opposed to the planned destructive and illegal mining activities in the Atewa Forest Reserve.
According to the group, they received intel two months ago about a man notorious for destructive illegal mining searching for lands at Sagyimase.
In a press statement issued by Baffour Asare Bediako, the Kyidomhene of Akyem Sagyimase, the illegal miner, whose name is given as Prince Kegya, approached the chief of Sagyimase to acquire eight hundred acres of land solely for illegal mining within the restricted Atewa Forest.
