After years of calls for formal recognition, the legacy of the legendary spiritual icon Okomfo Anokye is finally being celebrated in grand style.
A colourful ceremony full of traditional regalia, drumming, and dance brought together chiefs, queen mothers, and residents of Awukugua to officially launch the maiden Okomfo Anokye Festival.
Held in Awukugua in the Akuapem North Municipality-believed to be the birthplace of Okomfo Anokye in the 1600s-the festival is a joint initiative between Awukuguaman and the Asanteman Council.
Its purpose is to honour the life and enduring influence of Okomfo Kwame Anokye Frimpong Kotobre, revered for his deep spiritual power and foundational role in the establishment of the Ashanti Kingdom.
