The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has identified 48 mobile lending apps as the source of a troubling surge in cyberbullying and privacy violations, warning Ghanaians against engaging with these unregulated platforms.

In just the first five months of 2025, the Authority received 377 cyberbullying complaints related to digital lending apps, compared to the 228 cases reported in 2024.

The apps, many of which are not registered with the Bank of Ghana or the Data Protection Commission, reportedly disburse unsolicited microloans and later employ aggressive recovery tactics.

Victims say their contact lists, private images, and sensitive data are used as weapons to publicly shame them into repaying.
