Private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu has criticised senior members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for allegedly turning the detention of Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, into a political campaign tool.

Speaking on Channel One Newsroom with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Saturday, May 31, Kpebu accused top NPP figures of exploiting Wontumi's legal troubles to serve their internal political interests ahead of the 2028 elections. "It appears the NPP is using Chairman Wontumi's matter for a political campaign.

That is very clear…The NPP needs to sanitise the situation; it doesn't look tidy at all," he said.

Wontumi is under investigation by EOCO for alleged money laundering, fraud, and causing financial loss to the state.
