Bright Simons, Vice President of IMANI-Africa, has dismissed allegations of defamation brought against him by businessman Ibrahim Mahama, asserting that his statements were fair and based on widely available information.
In a response to Mahama's lawsuit, Simons described the case as a "strategic lawsuit against public participation (SLAPP)," intended to silence analysts and activists who scrutinize powerful business figures engaged in public-interest matters.
After reviewing the suit with his legal team, Simons announced plans to "vigorously defend" himself in court, arguing that the claims outlined by Mahama's lawyers stem from an "elaborate twist" of innocuous words.
He maintains that his statements were logical deductions based on publicly documented facts about Engineers & Planners (E&P), Mahama's company.
