Lawyer for Bernard Antwi Boasiako, Enoch Afoakwa, has accused the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) of engaging in unnecessary drama and politicisation surrounding his client's arrest and detention.
His remarks come in response to the continued detention of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
In an interview on Channel One Newsroom on Thursday, May 29, he criticised EOCO's handling of the case, describing it as a violation of Wontumi's rights and a breach of due process.
Afoakwa expressed concern about the detention, which has lasted over 48 hours, well beyond the constitutionally mandated period for detaining a suspect without charge.
