Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, is set to remain in the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) after failing to meet 'stringent' bail conditions.

Wontumi is currently facing a series of criminal investigations related to alleged fraud, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the state.

His case is said to go beyond local infractions, with Deputy Attorney General Justice Srem-Sai revealing a second, ongoing probe connecting him to a suspected international organised crime ring.

Despite efforts by his legal team, EOCO declined to grant him release after they were unable to satisfy the bail condition, which includes a GHS50 million bail bond.
