Former National Treasurer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), George Kwabena Abankwa-Yeboah, has strongly criticised the circumstances surrounding the recent arrest of Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

In an interview with Channel One News' Charles Owusu Kumi, Abankwa expressed deep concern about the arrest, describing it as an unsettling reminder of Ghana's revolutionary past.

He warned that the manner in which Chairman Wontumi was apprehended following his visit to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) paints a troubling picture of the state of governance and justice in the country.

According to him, the ongoing actions of the security agencies could erode public confidence and create an atmosphere of fear. "What transpired in the past few days has not been pleasant to Ghanaians, especially those of us who are old enough to know where the country is coming from.
